Fine Awnings in San Diego and Surrounding Areas
Nicholas makes very good sense here. And though I did not go on the proverbial ‘crusade’ to track down these pirating sites, it didn’t take long to just sit back and say . . . perhaps it may help with exposure. 🙂
I saw the other day a post about book piracy in Anastacia Moore’s blog. She was rightly fuming, because, while checking out her video trailers, she noticed that someone was advertising on You Tube a link to receive free copies of said books.
A few days before that, my friend N.N. Light had kindly emailed me to let me know that she had found her book, “Princess of the Light” on a similar website, and that she had seen my work there as well.
Then came the news that Australia’s Copyright Agency has welcomed a decision by the British High Court requiring internet service providers (ISPs) to block access to websites hosting millions of pirated e-book titles. The decision means Britain’s five major ISPs – BT, Virgin Media, Sky, TalkTalk and EE – will be asked to block seven offshore-hosted websites within 10 working days.
The sites – AvaxHome…

Intellectual Property Theft – a growing problem that hurts everyone in this writing business
By Susan M. Toy
Recently, I’ve become aware of the increasing amount of Intellectual Property (IP) theft that’s taking place online. It’s been happening for a long time: artists—visual, photographers, musicians and writers—seem only able to stand by and watch as what they have created is either copied and pasted elsewhere on the net without permission or no attribution at all is given for their work. Yes, there are copyright laws in place to protect us and the illegal use of our IP. But internet users seem unaware of these laws, or blatantly flout them, or truly believe that, whatever is on the Internet is free for their own personal use and by anyone who wants to copy and paste it into their status update or to their blog.
I’m going to speak specifically to the…

This is a warning to ALL authors out there, whether you are traditionally or self published. BEWARE of unscrupulous people pirating your hard work and stealing your well deserved royalties by stealing your books and e-pubs and turning around and hawking them on such sites as EBay, Youtube and other sites.
As I was meandering around the internet the other night I happened to look at my own book trailers on You Tube to see how they were fairing. Much to my chagrin under the title “Curse of The Salute” I saw where someone was advertising on You Tube a link to my and other e-pubs for people to go there and receive copies of said books. Needles to say I was quite UPSET.
A little further research, by googling titles of my books revealed on google other sites such as EBay and other links offering not only printed versions of my book(s) but e-pubs as well! Someone on EBay was selling one of my books for $18+ !!!!! Over twice what it is going for on Amazon!!!!!
These people are not only stealing ‘Indie’ authors’ works, but such names as Stephen King, John Grisham, and many others.
A simple way to determine if any of your books are being pirated is to first GOOGLE your titles, and scroll through all the listings. Also check out Youtube by inserting your titles into the search bar, and the same with EBay.
I am disgusted that this is happening, and it appears that it is beginning to be the ‘in’ thing to do . . . THEFT of copyrighted material. One of the sites mentioned something as ignorant and UNTRUE about ‘intellectual property rights” being expired. Well, let me inform you that has no bearing on a COPYRIGHTED work. Your copyright is in effect throughout your lifetime, and in most cases a good amount of years FOLLOWING your demise, so they are blowing smoke up someone’s tutu!!!
If you happen to find one or more of your books being pirated, there is a link that you can follow that will give you explicit (although lengthy) steps to follow to aid in combating this problem, as it seems that the only to achieve any results is to take the bull by the horns on our own. Most “Indie” authors cannot afford attorneys, or their fees, but if enough of us take the time to follow through with finding ISP’s for these thieves and getting them shut down, perhaps the word will get around that we are not going to stand still for PIRACY of our copyrighted works.
I know we all work hard on our writing and want to get our dues in the way of royalties so it behooves us to take action to ensure that these THIEVES are not countermanding our efforts.
If you find any of your works as mentioned above, and you really do not want to or do not have the time to follow through with these steps, I will gladly do the follow up for you, and provide you with the offenders information, but you will have to file the complaint on your own to the ISP provider, EBAY, YouTube, or whomever is providing the outlet for these thieves.
I am so outraged at this that I feel that we definitely need to do something about it. As authors we need to support each other and take action to ensure that our work is protected. If the legal system itself isn’t enough to scare off these mongrels, then maybe when their outlets are SHUT DOWN, they will get the message that we mean business.
This is the link to a PDF that gives explicit instructions on how to follow up on obtaining the information needed to report and shut down these thieves:
Again, if you wish to illicit my assistance in tracking down ISP’s, whatever, please feel free to contact me via WordPress, or my email: email@example.com
I will be more than happy to make these THIEVES’ lives miserable 🙂
Thank you and if you like please reblog to your author friends. Spread the word, and help stop pirating!!!!
There is growing concern regarding overpopulation of planet Earth. There are covert operations in place to remedy the situation. Unfortunately, the general populace has no idea that these events have already been instituted. Only those that are the victims and when they realize what is happening it is too late for them. Who would perpetrate such a sinister plan? What means would they utilize to carry out such an atrocity you ask?
Drought in the Western states of the U.S. has created a devastating food shortage. Overpopulation in under developed countries has run rampant. China has instituted a ‘one child’ only law throughout their country. Violators are brought to justice by having any children conceived after their allotment aborted, regardless of the stage of pregnancy. Homelessness is at an all time high across the United States. The ‘one child’ law has recently been passed in the States. People in many countries are facing death by starvation, disease, disaster, and genocide.
A select and unique group called the World Health Organization in a collaboration with the CDC in Atlanta, Georgia, have devised a plan to alleviate the problems that grow exponentially with each passing year as resources continue to decline throughout the world.
Victor Battaglio is a young attorney who will do everything within his power to uncover the truth behind the so-called conspiracy. He has personal reasons for bringing this injustice to a halt and will stop at nothing until the people behind the depopulation are routed out and stand before all humanity to answer for their crime against the world.
Science Fiction? Could be, but dear reader, I will let you come to your own conclusions when “Useless Eaters” hits the stands this summer. Meanwhile, think long and hard on what YOU would do if you or one of your loved ones was targeted in the latest grand scheme to save planet Earth . . . what WOULD you do?????
With all the whoop de doo about everyone in the country ‘having’ to have health insurance coverage, and the push to entice the ‘average’ American to purchase the ‘Obama Plan’ or else . . . I would like to take this opportunity to point out a possibly little known FACT to the un-enlightened consumer about health insurance and the consequences of having said insurance.
A few years back I attended one of those home shows where every shuckster was selling their wares and potions. (I went because I LOVE to look at the pretty displays of garden layouts). There happened to be a chiropractor booth that was doling out ‘free’ back exams to show if your spine was in proper alignment. The friend I was with took advantage of this ‘freebie’ much to my dismay (plus I was bored).
To make a long story even shorter, the friend was given a coupon for a ‘discounted’ adjustment. Upon calling to make the appointment she was asked whether or not she had insurance. To which she replied ‘no’. The cost was quoted as $150. Thinking this was a ‘bait and switch’ deal, I suggested she call again and tell the person that yes, indeed, she did have insurance. To which the cost was quoted as $375!!!!
You will notice the major discrepancy in price between Insurance vs. non-insured. Rather disturbing I would say.
I had filed this little tidbit of information in the wee corners of my brain until just the other day when my boyfriend received a bill from a billing company representing the imaging service that had recently performed an ultrasound on his leg.
When he originally was referred, he informed his GP that he did not have insurance (that is another article entirely) . . . and would ‘self-pay’ as he does with his GP. The referring physician got him a ‘deal’ wherein he would only be required to pay $120 for the services rendered by the imaging provider. FANTASTIC! Service performed, cash paid (amazingly, but not surprising, medical services of ANY kind are ‘pre-paid’ prior to the services being rendered). Whether or not you are satisfied with the service is of little consequence . . . you pay in full prior, and if you are ‘dissatisfied’, there is no refund or negotiating due to any improper service.
Then comes in the mail this ‘bill’ from the billing company requesting payment of $635 for the imaging company!!!!! Of course, since I deal with such matters with more of an ‘iron hand’ than my sweet, loving boyfriend (he always defers such matters to me because he knows I will use the utmost of tact and ‘no b.s.’) I immediately went into attack mode and called said billing company to politely but succinctly inquire as to why they had the gaul to send a bill after he had already paid in full!
The lady I spoke with informed me that the ‘bill’ had already been ‘paid’ by the imaging company!
The fact of the matter is . . . IF he had ‘insurance’ the ‘bill’ would have been SEVEN HUNDRED AND FIFTY-FIVE DOLLARS! The ‘insurance’ would have cost around $800 per month, with a deductible of $150 and the ‘insurance’ would have only covered 80% of the bill.
I am no rocket scientist (by far) but by my calculation that would have cost him $301 ‘out-of-pocket’,
This solidifies my stance that insurance is a scam utilized by health care to illicit more funds from unsuspecting consumers. Granted there are instances where one cannot afford to ‘self-pay’ astronomical hospital bills (which in themselves are exorbitantly over inflated (for $800 per night in a hospital one could easily stay at a posh hotel for much less), and an a single Tylenol capsule does NOT cost $2 or $3 . . . But honestly, does anyone besides myself smell RIP-OFF?
